As part of my new exhibition which will be up in Velo in Braamfontein soon. I painted a series of small works inspired by the notion of a “fire pool” at Nkandla. I paint predominantly in red – lipstick is somewhat limiting in that respect – and this was a subject that I’ve been wanting to tackle since December.
Each of these paintings features a tiny figure standing alone, circled by vultures and facing the beasts in the water. She is, quite appropriately, named the Public Protector, and I wanted to pay tribute to her. You can view the paintings for yourself from next week.
