Sometimes, painting in lipstick isn’t practical. It takes a while to dry and needs mounting, so it isn’t suitable for birthday cards. This is one I did for a 21st birthday. Like me, the recipient loves cats and Radiohead, so I painted a black cat in ink and included quotes from Rudyard Kipling as well as some of my favourite Radiohead songs, notably Weird Fishes/ Arpeggi (hence the fish in the painting).
The overall message in this work relates to independence and autonomy – the cat who walked by herself – which is appropriate for the occasion.
