This is an illustration for a blog post about money. Dragons are one of my favourite subjects and since they are associated with the hoarding of gold in Western folklore, it made sense to use one as a visual metaphor for my awful screwed up relationship with my finances.
I started off with a sketch in ball point pen. The dragon’s haunch was inspired by that of a dog:
Then followed up with an illustration in eyeliner, lipstick and nail polish.The dragon’s scales are statements about my relatioship with money; elsewhere I’ve also written the words “want” and “need”. The dragon itself is more disapproving than dangerous, but it keeps a firm grip nonetheless.
