Paintings in lipstick

How I found blue and green

Painting in lipstick presents certain practical problems, the most most obvious being that it only comes in certain colours. So, while some of the shades I’ve managed to track down have astonished me – do women seriously apply gun metal grey or screaming purple to their lips?! – certain colours present more of a challenge. Blues are difficult to find, as are the greens.

But not completely impossible.  Thanks to LA Colors Eye Shadow Pencils from Dischem, I can produce work like this:

The Truth Lurks Beneath

I love the luminosity of the blue on the left. (You can read about the thinking behind this work here.) The eye shadow works well because it has a similar consistency to lipstick. Nothing works as well – but sadly, it doesn’t come in yellow.

I still haven’t solved that problem.
